A Special Send-Off Before the First School Bell

Before stepping into their first classroom, nine children of employees of Klaipėda Stevedoring Company BEGA were welcomed at their parents’ workplace to mark the beginning of an important new chapter in their lives. The future first-graders received school backpacks filled with essential learning supplies, along with symbolic keepsakes to remember the occasion.

For families with children starting school, the beginning of September is always a special time. Along with the excitement of the first school bell comes an entirely new daily routine. For more than two decades, BEGA has sought to make this important milestone not only easier for employees’ families, but also more festive and memorable.

This year, ahead of the new school year, nine future first-graders and their parents gathered at the company. Each child received a backpack containing essential school supplies that will soon find their place on their very first classroom desks, as well as a small keepsake to commemorate the special day.

BEGA’s tradition of seeing employees’ children off to first grade dates back to 2002. Over nearly a quarter of a century, the initiative has grown into much more than practical support in preparing for school. It is also an opportunity for the company to share an important family milestone with its employees and for the children to see first-hand the place their parents come to work each day.

Over the years, the tradition has also developed a sense of continuity of its own. Some of the employees’ children who were once given their first school send-off by BEGA have later returned to the company as students for internships and, after completing their studies, have chosen BEGA as the place to begin their professional careers.
